Philadelphia (CW Philly) — Would you be interested in a “Game of Thrones” spin-off? I’m sure you would.
“Game of Thrones” fans will no doubt be upset to see their favorite characters go, but a new story set in Westeros will help ease the pain of the series ending.
If you’ve been following “Game of Thrones” closely, through the TV series or by reading all the books, you’ll likely recognize what’s to come, according to one of the people developing a spin-off series. Screenwriter Jane Goldman, who is working on a future series with “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin, says they’ll be covering territory from the series you’ve heard about already.READ MORE: Brittany Adebumola And Joseph David-Jones Say 'The 4400' Is 'A Beautiful Companion To The Original'
If I was able to say what mine was,” Goldman told IGN, “I think as a book reader or as someone who watched the series, you would say, ‘Oh, that! OK.’ Yeah, it would be recognizable as a past event, but I think that’s probably as far as I can go.”
From this interview, one crucial piece of information for this particular spin-off; it will take place in the past, since it follows an event that can be recognized by name. With the ever increasing amount of people who have died over the course of the show, this could lead to the return of some of some fan favorites.READ MORE: Batwoman Star Javicia Leslie Says 'I’m Really Excited For The Villains'
Despite what fans may think, Martin himself has insisted any spin-off created will not on Robert’s Rebellion.
“We’re not doing Robert’s Rebellion,” Martin told IGN. “By the time I finish writing ‘A Song of Ice & Fire,’ you will know every important thing that happened in Robert’s Rebellion. There would be no surprises or revelations left in such a show, just the acting out of conflicts whose resolutions you already know. That’s not a story I want to tell just now; it would feel too much like a twice-told tale.”MORE NEWS: Azie Tesfai On Becoming The First Actor To Write An Episode For 'Supergirl': 'It's Incredibly Personal'
We’re left wondering what the outcome could be, as “Game of Thrones” has a myriad of storylines to choose from, such as the “Dance of the Dragons” or the mysterious “Children of the Forest.” With the show ending soon, the idea of a spin-off would certainly be something fans would cling to.
