A statue of Amy Winehouse was unveiled Sunday in London on what would have been the singer’s 31st birthday.
Sculptor Scott Eaton created the statue, which is colorless except for a red rose in Winehouse’s hair.
A large crowd, including Amy’s parents, gathered for the unveiling.
“It’s a day of incredibly mixed emotions,” her dad Mitch said. “They don’t put statues up for people who are with us anymore so it reinforces the fact that physically she’s gone but spiritually she’ll never leave us. I feel sad, very, very sad.”
Winehouse died at the age of 27 in July 2011 due to alcohol poisoning. Mitch Winehouse has since started the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help those struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.
