Philadelphia (CW Philly) — “Star Wars” fever is back and in full effect as for the past two years we’ve seen the release of a movie and have gotten plans of more to come.
With 2015′s “The Force Awakens,” 2016′s “Rogue One,” and with planned releases for 2017, 2018 and 2019, it seems as though “Stars Wars” is back to assert its box office dominance from years ago.
The Hollywood Reporter claims to have gotten details from Lucasfilm and Disney on a possible spinoff movie centering on the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi. The companies are looking into Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry to direct the film. There hasn’t been any word given on an actual script for the movie yet.
“Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass,” per the Hollywood Reporter. “If there’s a deal, it’s not known at this stage if Ewan McGregor will reprise his role.”
Ewan McGregor has had to address these rumors and more for quite some time now, having played Kenobi in Episodes 1 through 3 of the series and doing minor voice work as the character for the recent seventh episode, “The Force Awakens.”
“I’ve been asked this question so many times, and I answer the questions when I’m asked them because I’ve been brought up like that, polite,” McGregor said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in May. “And it’s gotten to the point where it looks like I’m touting for work at Disney’s front door. Like, ‘Give me the Obi-Wan spinoff,’ you know … Of course, I’d be happy to do it.”
Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy has claimed before that her company might announce another “Star Wars” project this summer so this could possibly be the movie in question.
If these rumors hold up and turn out to be true, the film would follow the upcoming spinoff movie focused on the character Han Solo, hitting theaters in 2018.
