PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — In a metropolis that offers various escapes to its serenity seeking citizens, there’s a reason Rittenhouse Square stands out above the rest.
Whether you reside in one of the square’s luxurious condominiums, enjoy elegant dining, visit the annual Christmas tree lighting, take your canine companion for a stroll through the park or just flat out enjoy some rays while break dancers make you wonder if their health insurance will cover a spill, Rittenhouse Square is a sanctuary for all.
Although a main stay of Center City life, the square’s usage comes at a cost.
That’s why Friends of the Square have been looking to preserve this city gem since 1976. On Thursday they will host the 29th Annual Ball on the Square transforming Rittenhouse into a majestic ballroom.
The black-tie gala, catered by Stephen Starr Events, will feature some of Philadelphia’s most prominent movers and shakers with all proceeds going directly to maintaining Rittenhouse Square as one of the city’s most beautiful landmarks.
Across the square, at Smith and Wollensky, The Young Friends of the Square will cater to those aged 21-35 until everyone gets together at the conclusion of the evening.
Rittenhouse Square is only as beautiful as you are generous. So let’s cherish this rare concrete jungle oasis for generations to come.
