Pink Delivers An Inspiring Speech At The VMAs

Philadelphia (CW Philly) — Multi-platinum recording artist Pink received the Video Music Awards’ annual MTV Video Vanguard Award on Sunday night.

Pink performed a variety of hits across her 17-year career. She started with “Get This Party Started” and “Raise Your Glass,” before hopping onto a four-wheeler while singing “So What.”

Pink continued her performance with excerpts from “Perfect,” “Just Give Me a Reason” and even her newest song, “What About Us.” She followed all of that by delivering an empowering acceptance speech.

Ellen DeGeneres was given the honor of presenting the prize to Pink for her musical achievements. During her acceptance speech, Pink gave a charming story about her 6-year-old daughter Willow feeling like she’s the “ugliest girl in the world” because she looks like a boy.

Encouraging her to embrace her appearance, Pink said she made a PowerPoint presentation comprised of a variety of “androgynous rock stars” who she said “lived their truth,” pointing out names such as Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin, Annie Lennox, Elton John and George Michael.

“When people make fun of me, they tell me I look like a boy,” and that she reminded Willow that she sold out arenas all over the world without altering the way she presents herself.

“We don’t change,” she declared.
