Def Comedy Jam Anniversary Special Set For Netflix

Philadelphia (CW Philly) — Twenty-five years ago, perhaps the greatest comedy show to ever come across our televisions in Def Comedy Jam premiered on HBO.

Def Comedy Jam, created by Russell Simmons and hosted by D.L. Hughley, aired on HBO from 1992-1997 and then again from 2006-2008.

The series weekly featured legendary stand-up sets by black comedians and ultimately helped launch the careers of comics Martin Lawrence, Cedric The Entertainer, Dave Chappelle, Monique, Mike Epps, Adele Givens, JB Smoove, D.L. Hughley, Tracy Morgan, Sheryl Underwood and more. Now, these comics alongside Netflix, are going to help celebrate the series’ anniversary with Def Comedy Jam 25, special made exclusively for the premium streaming service.

Reports from the streaming service are that the special will celebrate “the impact and legacy of the long-running comedy series with surprise guests, tributes, and performances in a can’t-miss evening of unbelievably funny and raw moments.”

Notable comedians in attendance for the special will be the likes of Bill Bellamy, Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, Adele Givens, Eddie Griffin, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Kid Capri, Martin Lawrence, Craig Robinson, JB Smoove, Sommore, Joe Torry, Sheryl Underwood, and Katt Williams.

Def Comedy Jam is an iconic show that helped bring the world some of the most legendary comedians it’s ever seen. The Netflix special is executive produced by Stan Lathan, Russell Simmons, Sandy Wernick, and Jesse Collins.
