Mario And All His Friends Are Headed To Universal Studios

By Briana White

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Mario, Luigi, and more beloved Nintendo characters are headed to Universal Studios theme parks.

With the goal of further expanding awareness of their brand, the legacy video game corporation is moving into the amusement park business. In the coming years, visitors to Universal Studio theme parks in Florida, California, and Japan will experience rides, restaurants, shops, and other attractions that will make them feel as though they are actually inside of their favorite Nintendo video game.

Each Universal theme park will soon announce the details of its specific Nintendo areas. There is no announcement just yet as to when exactly the parks are slated to open, but we do know this:  Planning and creative work on these areas is well underway!

The new themed areas come as the result of a global partnership between Universal Parks & Resorts and Nintendo.

It is important to note that Nintendo isn’t the first video game company to venture into the amusement park business. Rovio, the parent company of the popular game app Angry Birds, forayed those beloved birds into an action-packed theme park in Finland back in 2012. Since then, two more Angry Birds theme parks have popped up in the United Kingdom.

Taking another page from the Angry Birds book, starting Dec. 15, you can download the app version of Nintendo’s Super Mario Run on your iPhone or iPad.
