Save the date, film buffs! One of television’s funniest and most talented actresses, Aisha Tyler, will be hosting the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on the CW this year. It will air live on January 16th at 8:00 p.m. and is set to feature appearances from many major silver screen stars.

Looking back, there’s no question 2013 was a great year for films. With such good nominees, we are hard pressed to choose our favorites!  Among the best are “12 Years a Slave” and “American Hustle,” each earning an impressive thirteen nominations.

“12 Years a Slave” earned nominations for best picture, best actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), best director (Steve McQueen), best cinematographer, to name a few. “American Hustle” also got nominations for best picture, best actor (Christian Bale), best supporting actor and actress (Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence), and many more.

Coming in a close second is the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney outer space drama, “Gravity,” which earned ten nominations including best picture and best actress (Sandra Bullock).

Other notable movies include “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Her,” “Captain Phillips,” and “Nebraska,” which each earned six nominations.

“Everyone acknowledges that 2013 has been a truly great year for films” says Broadcast Film Critics Association’s President Joey Berlin.

2013’s host, Aisha Tyler, is also the host of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and a co-host of CBS’s “The Talk.”  She’s been on “Talk Soup,” “Friends,” “CSI,” “24,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and numerous other shows. In addition to her appearances on TV, Tyler is the host of an award-winning podcast, “Girl on Guy,” which regularly tops the charts for comedy podcasts on iTunes.

“We’re thrilled to have the lovely and talented Aisha Tyler hosting our gala awards ceremony,” gushed BFCA’s Joey Berlin.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are always star-studded: last year, attendees included Amy Adams, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, and Daniel Day Lewis. We can’t wait to see the great (and not-so-great) fashion moments unfold!
